X Factor accused of 'fixing' show to save Cher Lloyd and axe Mary Byrne

X Factor accused of 'fixing' show to save Cher Lloyd and axe Mary Byrne ; X Factor bosses have been accused of 'fixing' the show after a surprise judges' vote was introduced, allowing them to save Cher Lloyd rather than putting the decision to a public vote.

This is the first time in the show's history that viewers have not been allowed to vote for who should get booted off in the semi-finals. X Factor host Dermot O'Leary even promised viewers on Saturday's episode: 'Your votes and your votes alone can get your favourite act safely through to the final.'

nstead, rather than letting the public have their say X Factor bosses announced a last minute sing-off which meant judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue were given the chance to save an act.

After viewers decided that Cher Lloyd and Mary Byrne should be in the bottom two, all the judges apart from the Irish singer's mentor Walsh voted to axe the 50-year-old wannabe to fans' fury.

Twitter user Shamrockraft wrote:
'What a fix? X Factor supposed to be on public vote and yet again they change the goal post, public might as well save their money?' Viewers were not told at any point during last night's episode about the sing-off - the first time one has ever been introduced in the semi-finals.
The decision to include one was so last-minute that it was not even mentioned on the show's official website. Fans have taken to the internet to complain that their votes for Mary were wasted with many demanding a refund.

Some also questioned why Dannii decided to save Cher even though the pair have argued regularly during the series. Web user Blah Girl said: 'Why did Dannii do as she was told and save Cher?'

And MarkAllenUK tweeted Danni to say: 'The X Factor is more like The Fix Factor! You all knew that if it went to Deadlock Cher would have been sent home.'

In the end, Mary was booted off after singing James Brown's It's a Man's World in the sing-off, while Cher's teary rendition of Britney Spears' Everytime saved her from the chop. She must now battle it out with Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson, and boyband One Direction in the finals.
