Singer Stacey is crowned queen of the jungle

Singer Stacey is crowned queen of the jungle ; Dagenham Diva and former X Factor star Stacey Solomon has been crowned Queen of the Jungle after winning ITV1’s I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here. Bursting into tears at the announcement, the single mum was named the most popular contestant in the show’s history.

Bookies had set the odds of her winning the jungle crown at 1-16 after comedian Jenny Eclair was voted off, leaving just Stacey and Happy Mondays’ legend Shaun Ryder to battle for the title. Essex-born Solomon, who has a two-year-old son, Zach, was a favourite of her fellow contestants to clinch the title.

Playboy model Kayla Collins, 23, who was voted out on Thursday, said she wanted Solomon to win, saying she was: “An amazing person, inside and out.”

Evicted Linford Christie, 50, and Trigger Happy TV star Dom Joly, 43, also threw their weight behind Stacey, with Dom describing the single mum as an “extraordinary individual”.

Former contestant Katie Price said: “My favourite is Stacey. It wouldn’t surprise me if she wins it.” X Factor judge Dannii Minogue also tweeted her support for Solomon.

Before the final vote, Solomon and Ryder were forced to compete in a live bushtucker trial, the “Bush Spa”. Solomon was made to suffer mealworms being poured over her head before Ryder was given a bucketload of cockroaches to contend with.

Solomon then faced a mani-pedi – a green ant manicure and a yabby pedicure, while Ryder had to endure a rat sauna.
The final torture came in the form of a facial, with Ryder and Solomon having to put their faces in boxes for 30 seconds, which were then filled with cockroaches and spiders.

Solomon went first, and was shaking as she emerged. “Oh God, that’s horrible,” she said. After Solomon and Ryder, who also fronted the band Black Grape, successfully completed their trials, Solomon – who finished third in the X Factor last year – won the viewers’ phone-in poll.

As she was presented with the crown by ITV2 presenter Caroline Flack and 2008 King of the Jungle Joe Swash, she apologised for her bad breath. The bathroom facilities in the camp are far from A-List.
