Coffee concerts off to refreshing start in Wallington

Coffee concerts off to refreshing start in Wallington ; A new season of events in Wallington is serving up music alongside coffee. Wallington Library has launched the spring season of their ‘Coffee Concerts’, which run every two weeks until May.

Each concert features classical music chosen and presented by a local dignitary or member of the community.

The first concert, January 19, was attended by the Mayor of Sutton, Margaret Court, and was based around the theme ‘winter landscapes’, featuring music from Vivaldi and Chopin, as well as lesser known composers such as Hamish Maccunn.

Councillor Graham Tope, executive member for community safety, leisure and libraries on Sutton Council, said: "The Coffee Concerts are a lovely community event.

"Not only are they a fun and relaxing way to spend an hour, they are also a great way of bringing people together, with people coming back week after week.

"It’s good to see local groups working together to put on such successful events, and they’re a great example of the active community that we’re lucky enough to have here in Sutton."

The concerts are organised collaboratively between the Wallington and Carshalton Gramophone Society, Wallington Library staff, and the Friends of Wallington Library and Gardens, who also provide refreshments.

Coffee Concerts are held in Wallington Library’s Mallinson Room at 11.30am on alternate Wednesdays. Admission and light refreshments are free.
