GMCR stock, earning forecast 2012

GMCR stock forecast 2012 : Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) on Wednesday reported a profit for the first quarter that soared from last year as sales of K-cup portions doubled. Adjusted earnings per share more than tripled and beat analysts' consensus estimate. The company's shares gained more than 21 percent in extended trade.

Looking ahead to the second quarter, the company forecast earnings below analysts' expectations, but reaffirmed its earnings outlook for fiscal year 2012.

The Waterbury, Vermont-based company's first-quarter net income soared to $104.41 million or $0.66 per share from $2.41 million or $0.02 per share in the year-ago period.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings rose to $96.00 million or $0.60 per share from $26.37 million or $0.18 per share in the prior-year quarter. On average, ten analysts expected the company to earn $0.36 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically excludes special items.

Net sales for the quarter doubled to $1.16 billion from $574.15 million in the prior year. Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.06 billion. The company noted that strong Keurig single cup brewer and beverage holiday sales drove the strong sales growth.

Green Mountain said that about 90 percent of consolidated net sales in the quarter were from the Keurig brewing system and its recurring K-Cup portion pack revenue, with the remainder of net sales consisting primarily of sales of bagged coffee and sales from the office coffee services business. The company sold 4 million Keurig brewers during the quarter.

Net sales from K-Cup portion packs doubled from last year to $715.7 million, while Brewers and Accessories grew 76 percent to $330.4 million. Other products sales more than doubled to $112.1 million.

Gross margin for the quarter expanded to 29.1 percent from 25.0 percent last year, due mainly to price increases price increases on K-Cup portion packs, a shift in the company's sales mix, and the net price realization from price increases on Keurig Single Cup Brewers implemented to offset higher input costs.

Looking ahead to the second quarter, Green Mountain forecasts adjusted earnings of $0.60 to $0.65 per share and net sales growth of 45 to 50 percent. Analysts expect the company to earn $0.73 per share on revenues of $1.03 billion.

The company said second-quarter estimates reflect lower portion pack and brewer growth rates compared to the preceding first quarter that benefited from exceptional holiday sales. The outlook also reflects business seasonality, the company added.

For fiscal year 2012, Green Mountain reaffirmed its outlook for adjusted earnings of $2.55 to $2.65 per share and revenue to grow 60 to 65 percent. Analysts currently expect earnings of $2.56 per share for the year on revenues of $4.24 billion.

best indonesia kopi luwak

best indonesia kopi luwak : Kopi luwak (also spelled loewak), or "civet coffee", is one of the world's most exclusive coffees. Featured in the 2007 film The Bucket List, in which lead character Carter Chambers (Jack Nicholson) totes a thermos of the precious drink, it has inspired both intense curiosity and, well, revulsion: the beans used to produce kopi luwak are collected from the stool of the Asian palm civet.

The civets first eat whole coffee cherries for their pulp, after which the inner beans ferment inside their stomachs; once defecated, the beans, still whole, are collected, cleaned, and roasted. The result is a remarkably complex, full-bodied coffee -- one that sells for anywhere between $100 and $600 per pound.

Sumatra is the number-one producer of kopi luwak, which is also found on the other Indonesian islands of Java, Bali and Sulawesi (as well as East Timor and the Philippines) Where can I find kopi luwak? visit indonesia kopi luwak suryana

Colombia Coffee stockpiles forecast 2012

Colombia Coffee stockpiles forecast 2012 : Coffee stockpiles may remain near 11- year lows into next year as Colombia’s Arabica harvest fails to meet forecasts, contributing to a “scarcity” of the bean favored by brewers including Starbucks Corp. (SBUX)

Colombia’s year-end coffee crop is falling below “expected volumes” amid “strong” global demand for coffee, said Jorge Vasquez, chairman of Colombia’s National Association of Coffee Exporters, in an interview yesterday in Cartagena, Colombia

“There is a scarcity of coffee worldwide,” he said. In Colombia “you haven’t seen the expected volumes.”

Colombia, the second-largest grower of Arabica coffee beans after Brazil, will produce its smallest crop in two years in 2011 after above-average rainfall damaged plants, according to Vasquez. The harvest will likely slide to as low as 8.5 million bags this year, from last year’s 8.9 million bags, he said.

Arabica-coffee futures for December delivery fell 7 cents to $2.2615 a pound as of 8:17 a.m. on ICE Futures U.S. in New York.

Starbucks Corp fourth-quarter profit 2011

Starbucks Corp fourth-quarter profit 2011 ; Starbucks Corp., the world’s largest coffee-shop operator, said fourth-quarter profit rose 29 percent as U.S. sales increased.

Net income in the period ended Oct. 2 increased to $358.5 million, or 47 cents a share, from $278.9 million, or 37 cents, a year earlier, the Seattle-based company said today in a statement. Excluding some items, profit was 37 cents a share. Analysts expected 36 cents, the average of 19 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz has sought to boost sales by selling Via instant coffee that customers can brew at home. U.S. grocery stores and retailers also began selling Starbucks brand K-Cup portion packs for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.’s Keurig machine this week.

“What we’re offering at the premium level is really resonating well with customers, despite what’s still a tough environment,” Chief Financial Officer Troy Alstead said in an interview. K-Cups are going to make a “big splash for the holiday period,” he said.

Starbucks rose 2.9 percent to $42.61 at 4:42 p.m. in New York. The shares advanced 28 percent this year before today.

Sales at U.S. stores open at least 13 months climbed 10 percent in the quarter, while international same-store sales rose 6 percent. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg were expecting increases of 7.5 percent in the U.S. and 5.2 percent overseas. Global comparable-store sales rose 9 percent, compared with analysts’ average estimate of 6.9 percent.

Ingredient Costs

Starbucks, along with other restaurants, has faced higher raw-ingredient costs during the past year and has increased prices on bagged coffees in certain markets. Commodity costs reduced 2011 profit by 20 cents a share, the company said.

Coffee costs may moderate in 2013, Alstead said. The chain has locked prices for all of its coffee needs through fiscal 2012 and for some of 2013, he said. “We’ve really removed any volatility,” he said.

Revenue advanced 6.8 percent to $3.03 billion during the quarter, topping analysts’ $2.96 billion average estimate. Starbucks has more than 10,900 cafes in the U.S. and about 6,000 international locations.

Cocoa futures prices today nov 3 2011

Cocoa futures prices today nov 3 2011 : Cocoa prices were also higher with ICE leading a rebound from recent weakness while hedge selling linked to West African main crop harvests weighed on London.

"London has to contend with decent hedging from Ivory Coast and Ghana and that has narrowed the arbitrage," one London cocoa dealer said.

ICE December cocoa CCc1 was up $35 or 1.3 percent at $2,700 a tonne. The market dipped to $2,523 on Oct. 18, the lowest level for the front month in more than two years.

Dealers said the recent run-up had helped to improve the technical outlook while funds continued to trim their net short position on ICE. December cocoa on Liffe rose 19 pounds or 1.15 percent to 1,673 pounds a tonne.

Ivory Coast's cocoa industry reform will guarantee that farmers receive at least 60 percent of the market price for the cocoa they produce, Agriculture Minister Coulibaly Sangafowa said on Thursday

Coffee and sugar futures prices rose november 3 2011

Coffee and sugar futures prices rose november 3 2011 : Coffee and sugar futures rose in New York, heading for the biggest gains in a week, as signs that Europe is taking more aggressive steps to stem its debt crisis eased concerns slower economic growth would erode demand.

Equities and commodities rallied after the European Central Bank unexpectedly cut interest rates and the region’s leaders increased pressure on Greece to accept a bailout. The Standard & Poor’s GSCI Index of 24 raw materials headed for a second straight gain, led by wheat, soybeans and gold. The index fell on Nov. 1 to the lowest in more than a week.

“A lot of the bad news has already been factored into prices after the declines we’ve seen recently, and so it takes only a little bit of good news to get people buying again,” Michael Smith, the president of T&K Futures & Options in Port St. Lucie, Florida, said in a telephone interview. “You’re going to see a lot more fund money coming in.”

Arabica coffee for December delivery rose 1 percent to $2.2615 a pound at 10:56 a.m. on ICE Futures U.S. in New York. A close at that price would mark the biggest gain since Oct. 24. The commodity fell 21 percent from the end of August through last month.

Raw-sugar futures for March delivery advanced 1 percent to 25.68 cents a pound in New York, heading for the biggest gain since Oct. 27. Before today, prices fell 1.4 percent this month.

Sugar shipments to China, the world’s second-largest consumer, may be higher than analysts forecast, according to Newedge Group, the largest U.S. sugar-futures broker. While most analysts estimate imports for the 2011-2012 marketing year at about 2.5 million tons, a rate of import growth similar to the past two years would boost the figure to 2.97 million, Michael McDougall, a senior vice president at New York-based Newedge, said in a report.

World coffee exports in April 2010 - March 2011

World coffee exports in April 2010 - March 2011 : Global coffee exports increased by more than seven per cent to 101 million bags between April 2010 and March 2011, the highest level ever recorded, on the back of increased consumption and increased prices, the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) said.

Total exports internationally in the year-ago period stood at 94 million bags (one bag equals 60 kg), the global body on coffee said.

Total exports in the last 12 months (April 2010-March 2011) reached 101 million bags, the highest ever recorded. Increased exports seem to have been driven not only by current price levels, but also by the continued dynamism of consumption,” ICO said.

However, it pointed out that the cost of important production factors, like transport and fertilisers, in the coffee supply chain has been increasing due to the continued price rise of oil products. Exports in the first six months of the coffee year (October 2010-September 2011), also reached the highest level on record, at nearly 53 million bags, as against 45.8 million bags in the year-ago period, an increase of 15.4 per cent.

The global body on coffee said that the strong export performance is unlikely to favour the reconstitution of stocks in exporting countries.

“The level of exports in the period is the highest on record. This strong export performance is likely to delay the reconstitution of stocks in exporting countries,” it said.

The opening stock in the 2010-11 crop year was around 13 million bags, a fall of 36.7 per cent from 20.52 million bags in the corresponding period of the previous year, it added.

“However, current price levels are likely to encourage investment in the upkeep and renewal of coffee trees, although the increased cost of agricultural inputs might be a limiting factor,” the ICO noted.

According to the coffee industry in India, the stocks will remain low in the current financial year. “The stock has been low due to the strong exports in the past fiscal and we expect the stock to remain low in the current FY12,” All-India Coffee Exporters’ Association President Ramesh Raja said. coffee prices may 6 2011, Coffee prices heating up

coffee prices may 6 2011, Coffee prices heating up : Many folks can't start their day without a cup of joe, it's an important part of their morning routine. But to get that morning jolt, people may have to start shelling out more cash because the price of coffee is heating up.

This week raw bean prices averaged nearly $3 per pound, the highest in almost 35 years. It's forcing big names like Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts to raise prices.

There are several reason to blame on the spike. Experts say a very wet harvest is one of them. The rain is ruining a lot of crops in South America.

Smaller coffee shops around Tucson have noticed the soaring coffee prices.

Cartel Coffee Lab tells us it's been able to hold off from raising prices for now, but an employee we spoke with says it's going to happen sooner or later.

We also spoke with a couple coffee lovers who say they're willing to pay up to $5 for their coffee, as long as it's local.

Russell Long says if he was going to work, he would just buy regular coffee, but he would pay $5 at a coffee shop.

"It's nice to just sit, relax, and have a danish," said Long.

Haley Maddox also understands local price hikes.

"I would probably keep going to support them. But if Starbucks raised their prices, I would be like whatever, you guys have enough money."

The Cartel Coffee Lab employee we spoke with says as long as he's honest with customers about why costs are rising, he thinks they'll keep coming back for more

Vietnam coffee export predictions for 2011

Vietnam coffee export predictions for 2011 : The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recently increased its forecast regarding the coffee export value for 2011 after coffee prices kept rising. According to the new forecast, coffee exports during 2011may well reach 1.2 million tonnes, worth more than US$2.6 billion.

Export value increased by around $1 billion during 2010 and rose by $600 million in comparison with the Ministry's forecast at the end of 2010.

Current predictions are based on Ministry reports revealing that the export value during the first four months year-on-year nearly doubled to $1.4 billion while volumes rose by only 45.4 per cent to 675 million tonnes. During this time, export value surged by between 1.5 and 8 times throughout markets, including the largest one in the US.

Experts attribute high value to increasing export prices. During recent years coffee prices have kept increasing by 200 per cent, according to experts.

In the first four months, the average price came in at around $2,200 to $2,300 per tonne, surging by 50 per cent over the same period in the previous month.

Experts predict that prices would continue to increase seeing as Brazil, the largest coffee producer in the world has not yet harvested its crop.

In addition, some farmers kept stocks of coffee in reserve while waiting for prices to increase.

"Coffee prices follow a cycle based on a five-year increase and five-year decrease. We are currently experiencing the upwards surge," said the Chairman of the Viet Nam Coffee and Cocoa Association, Doan Trieu Nhan.

Prices could remain at a stand still if manufacturers had enough material for production.

According to a forecast made by the International Coffee Organisation, the coffee yield of Viet Nam, in terms of crop during 2010-11, will come in at around 18.4 million bags, a 1.3 per cent increase compared to previous crops

The prices of arabica coffee, gold and silver in Colombian commodities Market April 27 2011

The prices of arabica coffee, gold and silver in Colombian commodities Market April 27 2011 : The prices of arabica coffee, gold and silver - all important Colombian commodities - have soared to record levels due to low supplies and investors shying away from unpredictable currencies, Agrimoney and Reuters reported Wednesday April 27 2011.

Arabica coffee traded above $3 per pound, a level it has not seen since 1977 when a severe frost in Brazil two years earlier cut output. The highest price paid for july, the most commonly traded variety of arabica, was $3.025 a pound. This high price is said to be a result of lower than expected output and continued high demand.

Colombia is the world's second largest producer of high quality arabica beans after Brazil. Colombian coffee cultivators said in December 2010 that the wetter than usual rainy season may have a negative effect on this year's harvest. According to the International Coffee Organization, while production has been able to sustain regular levels, the demand for coffee has outstripped supply for the fourth year in a row.

In addition, gold has reached an unprecedented high of $1,505.40 an ounce and silver a 31 year high of $44.79 an ounce. Precious metals is another important sector for Colombia with several foreign companies including Greystar, Orofino, Mercer, Gran Colombia Gold and Medoro owning mines or concessions within its borders.

The price of gold rose internationally as primarily U.S. and European investors are beginning to view it as even more of a safe haven of value instead of shaky currency.

Demand for gold in India and China has been growing due to stronger inflation and rising consumer incomes which also drove up prices. Simon Weeks, head of precious metals at the Bank of Nova Scotia said, "Gold has been acting as a currency in its own right, and that is why we are up at $1,500."

On Thursday, the U.S. dollar fell to its lowest rate against the Euro for 15 months ($1 is now worth €0.68724) while Greece, Ireland and Portugal are all in the process of receving or requesting bailouts from the EU and IMF.

Furthermore, the Colombian peso reached its highest level against the dollar on Wednesday since August 2008.

Cocoa futures Prices Forecast impact Ivory Coast's political climate

Cocoa futures Prices Forecast impact Ivory Coast's political climate : Prices rallied as investors worried that Ivory Coast's political climate would remain unstable, even after the world's top cocoa producer resumed exports of the commodity after the ousting of Laurent Gbagbo.

Cocoa futures rose "as traders were still uncertain as to whether or not new Ivory Coast leader Alassane Ouattara would see a peaceful transfer into power," said commodities review The Public Ledger.

Around 400,000 tonnes of cocoa have accumulated on the dockside in Abidjan and the southwestern port of San Pedro during the crisis pitting Ouattara against Gbagbo, who refused to admit defeat in a November election.

Forces belonging to Ouattara, backed by French and UN troops, captured Gbagbo in Abidjan on Monday at the climax of the deadly crisis.

The unrest halted the African nation's cocoa exports, causing the price to hit the highest level since 1979 on New York markets.

Cocoa futures struck $3,775 a tonne at the start of March before falling back 10 percent earlier this month as traders anticipated Gbagbo's capture.

By Friday on LIFFE, London's futures exchange, cocoa for delivery in July had jumped to £1,962 a tonne from £1,886 a week earlier.

In New York on the NYBOT-ICE, cocoa for July gained to $3,130 a tonne from $2,969 for the May contract a week earlier.

A Swedish study concludes women consuming over one cup of coffee every day have a 22-percent to 25-percent lower risk of stroke than those who drink less.

The study appears in the American Heart Association's journal "Stroke." Men haven't been left out of coffee's seemingly positive effects.

An earlier study by the same researcher concluded men who consumed coffee or tea reaped the same health benefits.

Other research has suggested coffee can aid in the prevention of cognitive decline, and can help vision and heart health.

It's also been linked to a lower risk of liver cancer. Coffee is known to contain large amounts of antioxidants.
