Nokia stock prices forecast 2013

Nokia stock prices forecast 2013 : Nokia Corporation's (NOK) shares are up nearly 90% from their low reached in July, after a series of positive news added optimism for the company's prospects. Sentiment reversed ever since Nokia reported earnings on July 19 and shares fell well below $2. Since then, Nokia announced the sale of Qt software, a compiler for Symbian apps, launched the Asha 311 smartphone in the UAE, and is rumored to be launching Windows Phone 8 on Verizon Communications (VZ) this year. More recently, it was noted on Seeking Alpha's market currents that two Windows Phone 8 devices will be announced as early as September 5.

The feature phone market in Asia remains an important area of growth for Nokia. Asha 305 devices were reportedly sold out after their debut.

Second Quarter Earnings Summary

Nokia sold 4 million Lumia devices during the quarter, a 200% increase from Q1. Net cash declined by EUR 700 million in the last quarter to EUR 4.2 billion. Gross cash was EUR 9.4 billion. Smart device sales declined 10% sequentially, mainly due to lower sales for Symbian.

There was EUR 220 million in allowances from its Smart Devices unit to recognize excess component inventory. Nokia warned that future allowances could be made dependent on future sales. The net impact on the recognition was a 550 basis point decline in gross margins for its devices and services unit.

The company said it would address the impact of Windows Phone 8 ("WP8") for WP7 sales through promotional activities. Strategically, Nokia plans to differentiate itself from competitors by redefining mapping and location-based NAVTEQ services.

With Nokia shares recovering from all of the declines made since June, should investors be buying?

Reasons To Buy

  • Sales increased in China and in Latin America for Lumia 610 and 900 devices
  • Nokia Siemens Network ("NSN") is no longer a drag for Nokia: NSN contributed to EUR 1.8 billion in gross cash, and EUR 380 million in net cash
  • The Asha feature phone product will help Nokia sustain its global market share
  • Upside for Windows Phone 8 release not fully reflected in stock price
  • Apple's (AAPL) win over Samsung will make Nokia-Microsoft phones more appealing for carriers
  • Windows Phone 8 will be supported with updates from Microsoft for at least 18 months
  • Successive Lumia launches will be accompanied with better support at the retail sales level
  • Reasons to Avoid

  • Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 8 Phone announcement will damage sales for Windows Phone 7 in Q3
  • Pressure to keep selling products at lower price points will keep hurting margins

Nokia is a speculative company to buy. Shares sold off sharply after the company reported earnings, but rebounded just as quickly. The company's current quarter is not expected to be strong, but investors with a longer-term time horizon could see any weakness in its shares as a buying opportunity. Traders will try to push shares below $3 in the near term. Yet, if Nokia shares are able to hold the $3-level, positive sentiment for Microsoft's Windows 8 launch will be an added positive for Nokia's shares.

In the options market, open interest for January 2013 $4 and $5 calls are especially high. Samsung's patent loss against Apple will change the cost of Android for other manufacturers. In response, manufacturers might look at Windows Phone 8, since Microsoft has many cross-licensing agreements with Apple. With a WP8 launch under more receptive circumstances, Nokia stands to be the leading manufacturer that benefits the most. Investors may very well bid shares up to $5 well before the 2013 options expire.

Nokia shares prices today 8/27/2012

Nokia shares prices today 8/27/2012 : Nokia shares jumped to the top of pan-European indexes on Monday amid speculation that a US patent ruling in favour of smartphone maker Apple against rival Samsung could result in a ban on sales of some of the South Korean company’s products in the US.

Finland’s Nokia has been striving to rebuild market share after it ceded ground to rivals in the smartphone market, such as Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy Android phones

Shares in Nokia
jumped 7.7 per cent to €2.68 on potential sales increases if Samsung products were to be banned from US shelves.

Nokia, which uses
Microsoft Windows software on its smartphones, was not expected to face any patent action from Apple, whose claims that Samsung had infringed several of its patents were mostly upheld in a US court on Friday.

Nomura analysts told Reuters: “As Android and Apple tear each other apart, Microsoft has been waiting in the wings and is in a very good position to move in and entice users to switch from Android to Microsoft, as we have already seen that user loyalty is low.”

Nokia Windows Phone Market Share in UK

Nokia Windows Phone Market Share in UK : Symbian’s slide into irrelevance is one step closer as research conducted by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech revealed that the operating system has been overtaken by Windows Phone in terms of UK market share.

The mobile OS now features on only 2.4 percent of all smartphones sold, down from 2.8 percent last month and 12.4 percent at this time last year.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop promised a greater emphasis on Windows Phone products at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and Kantar’s findings will serve as some proof that the operating system is gaining traction in Britain.

Last year Windows Phone represented only 0.5 percent of the smartphone market, but has since grown to 2.5 percent. Strong sales of the Nokia Lumia 800 have helped drive adoption, with the handset accounting for 87 percent of Windows Phone sales in Europe.

“There are strong signs that WP7 Nokia handsets are starting to make an impact on the European smartphone market though US sales, where the Nokia brand is weaker, remain underwhelming,” said Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar. “The fact that WP7 sales have overtaken Symbian based on one handset is encouraging; however, Nokia will need to expand the range quickly in order to keep up with the slew of next generation competitor products being launched in quarter two.”

Nokia has already revealed its next step to increase Windows Phones with the Lumia 610, a budget handset which is part of the broader Windows Phone strategy to cover the higher and lower ends of the market.

Meanwhile, the 808 PureView, with its 41-megapixel camera, will likely be Nokia’s last Symbian device before the operating system is buried.

nokia smartphone market share 2011-2012

nokia smartphone market share 2011-2012 ; Google Trends data that shows Nokia’s newest smartphones aren’t generating much buzz online. In other words, consumers aren’t very excited about them. Searches for “Nokia Lumia” — its first high-end devices based on Microsoft’s mobile operating system — peaked just after the phones were announced. And at a level that trails the manufacturer’s 2010 device, the “N8,” which itself proved a bust.

That’s bad news for Nokia, which has seen its share of the worldwide smartphone market collapse from 33% to 14% over the past year according to Strategy Analytics. Dumping its own mobile operating system in favor of Windows Phone is CEO Stephen Elop’s Hail Mary heave to recapture momentum. But Apple and others may be too far ahead. To wit: searches for the “iPhone 4S” peaked at a level twenty-times that of the Lumia devices.

New Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 to go on sale in Europe

New Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 to go on sale in Europe : Nokia unveiled two sleek new Microsoft Windows phones on Wednesday in time for Christmas, a first step in the ailing cellphone maker's fightback against Apple and Google .

Chief Executive Stephen Elop presented the two new smartphones, the first fruits of his big bet on Microsoft software, to a 3,000-strong audience in London, saying they represented the beginning of a new era for the Finnish giant.

"It's a new dawn for Nokia," Elop said as he unveiled the high-end Lumia 800 and mid-range Lumia 710, which will go on sale in key European markets next month.

Nokia shares, which have halved in value since Elop announced his high-risk partnership with Microsoft and ditched its old software platform in February, were up 3.1 percent at 1323 GMT, outperforming the wider market.

Elop said the new phones' minimalist design and superior navigation features would make them stand out among rival Windows phones, some of which have been faster to market with Microsoft's new Mango mobile platform.

Christian Lindholm, a partner at design agency Fjord who formerly managed Nokia's classic S60 and S40 user interfaces, said the new phones showed a renewed confidence in Nokia's traditional strengths.

The Lumia 800, with vivid colours and a curved, black display, features Windows Phone's live icons on the home screen, which automatically update news, weather and Facebook feeds.

It also boasts free navigation and Microsoft's new Internet Explorer 9 browser, and will sell for about 420 euros ($584) excluding taxes and subsidies, putting it in the same bracket as Apple's iPhone and Samsung's top Galaxy phones.

"The Lumia phones do have some strong selling points in their own right ... and they offer a look and feel that's radically different from anything seen previously on a Nokia device," said John Delaney, research director at technology research firm IDC.

Lumia 800 Specs
The Lumia 800 has a 3.7-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display with 800-by-480 resolution. ClearBlack is a Nokia technology the company says makes the screen more visible outdoors. The new smartphone is packing a single-core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, micro-USB port, 8 megapixel camera with a f/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens and 720p video capture at 30 frames-per-second. Nokia claims the handset has up to 9.5 hours of talk time and up to 55 hours of music playback. The 800 weighs about 5 ounces and comes in Black, Cyan and Magenta.

Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S Release September, Targeted at Market Share Gain

Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S Release September, Targeted at Market Share Gain : The release of Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S in fall is expected to put the competition in a bind. Rumors are gaining strength that Apple plans to launch more than one phone. The first will be the Apple iPhone 5 which has a lot of specification and a less expensive version of the iPhone also.

Analysts said that at the release of Apple iPhone 5, Apple should take advantage of the fact that competitors such as Nokia and RIM are not doing well. Apple, they said, with the launch of Apple iPhone 5 should look at penetrating the mid segment (between $300 and $500) of market for smartphones as this would really grow market share.

Along with the speculation of Apple iPhone 5, a less expensive iPhone from Apple is being anticipated by Apple fans. The blogosphere has been rife with rumors of the upcoming iPhone which is called N97 and is rumored to be smaller than the iPhone and to cost less too.

Analysts believe that the iPhone 4S would cost $349 with features such as pre-paid voice plans and so on. Rumor also has it that it will be an unlocked model.

The Apple iPhone 5 is believed to have an eight megapixel camera, A5 processor, fabulous display, 1080p video playback, 3.7 ‘’ curved glass screen as well as a world phone design.

Apple is expected to continue its version and skimming pricing model for the release of the Apple iPhone 5. The company had earlier come out with this strategy for the launch of its iPod range.

So how does this strategy work? A company sets a high price for a product which is launched into the market with a lot of hype and later reduces the price after the initial euphoria has died down. It skims the market of revenue from two segments.

Along with the launch of Apple iPhone 5, the company will also release multiple versions of the iPhone at various price points to mop up the market. Marketing analysts say that Apple decision on unlocked GSM phones is an indication that the marketing strategy is aimed at scale.

Nokia shares prices continue slide june 3 2011, after outlook downgrade

Nokia shares prices continue slide june 3 2011, after outlook downgrade : The world's top mobile phone maker Nokia saw its share price slump again Friday, three days after it dramatically downgraded its second quarter outlook and said it could no longer provide a full-year forecast.

Slightly before 2 pm (1100 GMT) Friday, the mobile phone giant's share price had dropped 4.50 percent to 4.50 euros on a Helsinki stock exchange down 1.68 percent.

Following Tuesday's announcement, the company's shares had closed down a whopping 17.5 percent, and they continued to slide Wednesday, although a rumour that Microsoft had agreed to buy the Finnish company appeared to have softened the blow, and the shares ended down 0.76 percent.

The continued slide Friday, after trading stopped Thursday for a public holiday, was not unexpected, Pohjola Bank analyst Hannu Rauhala told AFP.

"It's quite normal that the share price continues to go down a couple of days" after a profit warning, he said.

The ongoing drop, which has left Nokia's share price at the lowest level since early 1998, before it became the market leader, followed its announcement its second quarter sales would be far worse than previously expected and that it could no longer give a full-year forecast.

Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop, who joined the company from Microsoft last year, said Tuesday the Finnish company's sharp outlook downgrade was part of a rocky transition period as it phases out its Symbian smartphone platform in favour of a tie-in with Microsoft Phone.

The mobile phone maker said it hopes to regain lost ground when it starts shipping its first Microsoft handsets at the end of this year.

The sharp drop in Nokia's share price in recent days has meanwhile fueled speculation that the world's leading mobile phone company is ripe for sale.

"It's normal there's speculation that somebody is interested in buying Nokia," considering the low share price, Rauhala said, adding possible matches included Microsoft, Apple or Google.

He said however he did not know whether Nokia would be willing to sell. Nokia has rejected a report Wednesday that Microsoft had agreed to buy Nokia for $19 billion (13 billion euros).
