Passenger car sales ballooned by 40.7 percent to 4,341 from 3,085, while commercial vehicles grew by 22.3 percent to 9,290 from 7,596.
Asian utility vehicles and light commercial vehicles posted double-digit gains at 25.9 percent to 3,710 sales, and 20.4 percent to 5,251, respectively.
Light truck sales increased by 11.6 percent to 221, and truck and buses were up by 20 percent to 108, the CAMPI data showed.

Cumulative car sales in the first three months of the year, however, dropped by 9.9 percent to 32,608 units from 36,184 in the same 2011period.
Still, CAMPI officials remained bullish about this year’s outlook noting the industry is on a path to recovery.
"Sales are improving based on a monthly basis, said CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez. “The recovery is fast. Because of this, we are planning to revisit our earlier growth forecast this year if there is a need to revise it.”
Earlier, the association estimated an 8 percent to 9 percent growth in car sales for 2012.
