samsung market share, New Version of Galaxy S in South Korea ; Mobile phone manufacturer Samsung Electronics Co. has introduced a new version of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S in South Korea ahead of its scheduled global debut in May.

The second of version of Galaxy S is currently locked in a legal battle with Apple (News - Alert) over alleged mobile technology patent infringements and design copy claims. Apple accused Samsung of “slavishly” copying designs of its iPhone (News - Alert) and iPad. Both the companies are vying for position in the competitive smartphone market.

Earlier this month, Samsung filed suits against Apple in South Korea, Japan and Germany, alleging infringement of 10 patents in areas such as data transmission and wireless technology.

Samsung (News - Alert) expects that the rolling out the new model will help in boosting smartphone shipments to 60 million units this year, globally from May through 140 operators in 120 countries.

This year, the South Korea based company is aiming to sell over 10 million units of the new smartphone. In addition, it’s also targeting an over five-fold rise in sales of its Galaxy Tab tablets.

The Galaxy S II uses Samsung's own dual-core application processors, and is based on Google’s Android (News - Alert) operating system. In comparison to the previous model, it is slimmer and has a bigger display, said company officials.

The new product is expected to be sold in South Korea through operators SK Telecom (News - Alert), KT Corp and LG Uplus.

Earlier this year in February, Samsung Electronics announced collaboration agreement with South Korea-based automaker Hyundai Motor Company. As per the agreement, Samsung has installed its smartphone technology on Hyundai Motor’s onboard computer systems. source Articel asia.tmcnet.com ...
