Indian market Sensex, Nifty, Tata Steel, L&T,ICICI, BHEL down december 13 2011 ; The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was witnessing a choppy session as traders chose to remain on sidelines ahead of monthly inflation figures and the Reserve Bank of India's policy review meet later this week. According to dealers, the market may continue to remain choppy due to lack of supportive cues from Asian peers.

At 10:10 am; the Sensex was at 15881.66, up 11.31 points or 0.07 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 15771.59 and high of 15944.50.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty was at 4754.25, down 10.35 points or 0.22 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 4782.25 and low of 4728.50 in trade so far.

"Nifty closing on Monday has emerged as negative sentiment. Close below the 20-average of the bollinger band indicates weakness. If Nifty opens below 4750 levels more selling pressure can been seen which will drag the Nifty towards 4710/4650 levels.

Technically the chart is clearly showing a downtrend with a near target of 4710/4650 levels," said Nirmal Bang report

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.57 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index edged 0.36 per cent lower.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1.20 per cent, BSE Bankex was 0.96 per cent lower and BSE Metal Index declined 0.26 per cent. BSE IT Index moved 0.69 per cent higher and BSE FMCG Index gained 0.33 per cent.

Sensex losers included Tata Steel (-2.06%), Larsen & Toubro (-1.83%), ICICI Bank (-1.46%), BHEL (-1.18%) and HDFC Bank (-0.90%).

Hindalco Industries (1.13%), Bharti Airtel (1.13%), Wipro (0.90%), Tata Power (0.90%) and TCS (0.67%) were amongst the major Sensex gainers. Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 633 gainers against 1013 losers.

Meanwhile, the Asian markets were witnessing selling pressure. Nikkei 225 was down 1.06 per cent, Hang Seng declined 0.87 per cent and Shanghai Composite was 1.33 per cent down. For the latest updates on the stock market, visit Stock Market Today
