The political outlook remained unclear in Italy and Greece as they tried to push through severe austerity measures needed for bailout package and win the market confidence. The Italy Prime Minister designate, Mr Mario Monti, is expected to unveil Italy's new government on Wednesday.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 11.95 points or 0.14 per cent at 8,529.98. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 361.09 points or 1.87 per cent to 18,987.35. Singapore’s Straits Times fell 14.59 points or 0.52 per cent to 2,796.99. South Korea’s Kospi was down 13.86 points or 0.73 per cent at 1,872.26.
Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 shed 19.20 points or 0.45 per cent to 4,266.40. China’s Shanghai Composite lost 38.96 points or 1.54 per cent to 2,490.80. Taiwan’s Taiex declined 81.52 points or 1.09 per cent to 7,409.54.
