currency market news today sept 21 2011 : the dollar was largely in a holding pattern as investors waited to see if the Fed would unveil new stimulus measures. The Japanese yen, however, was volatile in early trade. The dollar fell below ¥76.32 for the first time since Aug. 19, prompting Japan's finance minister Jun Azumi to warn of "decisive steps when it is necessary" to curb excessive moves in the local currency.

The dollar was recently buying ¥76.34 from ¥76.46 late Tuesday in New York. The euro was at $1.3701 from $1.3703, and at ¥104.60 from ¥104.76.
