Calgary Farmers Market 2011 -Thousands visit new farmers' market

Calgary Farmers Market 2011 -Thousands visit new farmers' market - Thousands flocked to the Calgary Farmers' Market for its opening weekend, causing headaches for parkers.

An estimated 40,000 people have visited the market at itsnew southeast location since the opening on Thursday. But there are only 850 spots, making for a long line of vehicles waiting for parking.

General manager Ken Aylesworth said he was pleased with the level of interest.

"We were prepared. We brought on 10 qualified parking assistants who have been working with us day in and day out. They'll continue throughout the weekend and for the next couple of weekends with us," he said. "We're going to have a sit down with everyone this week and do a bit of a shake down and see how we can make it better for [our neighbours]."

Aylesworth says there will be several dozen more parking spots when construction is complete.

The new location is at 510 77th Ave. S.E.

The popular market was forced to leave its former southwest space in December because Currie Barracks is being redeveloped into a new community.
