coffee trading forecast closed market 15 february 2011 : Arabica futures in New York set a fresh 13-1/2-year high near the 260 cents/lb level on thin supplies. Growing demand for coffee in emerging markets such as Brazil has sparked worries of supply shortfalls. The nearby March contract gained 6.70 cents to settle at 258.65 cents/lb after trading in a 251.50 to 259.20 cents range. New York's May contract gained even 6.75 cents to 261.70 cents/lb in dealings from 254.15 to 262.25 cents. The rest of the board finished between 5.25 to 9.10 cents higher. Total estimated futures volume dropped sharply to 30,186 lots, down from 43,759 the previous session.

Robusta futures in London also recorded strong gains, in line with New York's arabica market, as positive Chinese trade data and inflationary fears boosted interest in commodity markets. The front-month March contract gained $23 to settle at $2,239 per tonne, close to the intraday's high of $2,240. May settled at $2,283 per tonne, up $28 in dealings from $2,247 to $2,284. The back months finished between $21 to $30 up. Total estimated futures volume dropped dramatically to 14,817 lots from 22,566 previously.
