Worries about Spain's rising bond yields were offset somewhat by fresh U.S. data on Thursday that provided more evidence of a recovering labour market, raising prospects of the non-farm payrolls report due later on Friday being solid.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan fell earlier for a third straight session, before steadying near late Thursday levels. The index hit a four-week low on Thursday and is set for a weekly loss of about 0.1 percent.
Japan's Nikkei average 225 was down 0.5 percent, on track for its worst weekly loss in eight months.
