gold, silver prices rose, EU summit scheduled later today october 26 2011 ; Worries that the EU summit may fail to live up to expectations spurred demand for supposedly 'safe-haven' commodities such as gold this morning.

Gold rose to the highest level in a month reaching $1,720 early on. By the start of trade in London, gold futures in New York were up 1.14% at $1,719.80. Brent crude prices were up 0.69% at $111.68, while copper rose 2.56% to $350.80.

Silver and gold miner Fresnillo was the highest riser early on, gaining 2.78%. Randgold Resources, Kazakhmys and Vedanta Resources were also higher.
