Earnings report to watch april 19 2012 : U.S. stock index futures pointed to a higher open for equities on Wall Street on Thursday, with futures for the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq 100 rising 0.5 to 0.7 percent.

The Labor department releases first-time claims for jobless benefits for the week ended April 14 at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Economists forecast a total of 370,000 new filings, compared with 380,000 in the prior week.

On the earnings front, focus will be on the first quarter earnings of Bank of America , the second-largest U.S. bank. Wall Street has priced in a profit of 12 cents per share, down from 17 cents in the same period one year ago.

Other major companies announcing results include Morgan Stanley , Microsoft , Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold , Verizon and DuPont .

Medical devices maker Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX: News ) is expected to report results for the first quarter. The company is expected to earn $0.08 per share on revenues of $1.86 billion. In the year-ago quarter, the company reported earnings of $0.14 per share on revenues of $1.92 billion. The shares closed Wednesday at $5.54. Bank of America Corp. (BAC: News ) is due to post first-quarter results. The financial services giant is expected to record earnings of $0.12 per share compared to $0.17 per share last year, on revenues of $22.51 billion. Shares of BAC closed Wednesday's trade at $8.92. Chemicals giant E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. (DD: News ) is scheduled to report first-quarter results. The company is expected to post earnings of $1.54 per share, higher than the year-ago quarter's $1.52 per share. Also, the company is anticipated to generate revenues of $11.27 billion versus $10.03 billion in the prior-year quarter. The company's shares closed Wednesday's session at $53.27. Morgan Stanley (MS: News ) is slated to report results for the first quarter. The investment banking giant is expected to report a profit of $0.42 per share versus $0.50 per share last year, with revenues estimated at $7.31 billion. The stock closed Wednesday at $17.66. Finland-based Nokia Corp. (NOK: News ) is expected to post first-quarter results. The mobile handset maker is expected to report a loss of $0.05 per share on revenues of $10.10 billion. A year earlier, earnings and revenue were $0.18 per share and $14.23 billion respectively. The stock closed Wednesday's regular trading at $3.97. Travelers Companies, Inc. (TRV: News ), a provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home and business, will report first-quarter results today. Earnings of the company are expected to decline to $1.49 per share from $1.89 per share reported a year earlier, while quarterly revenues are anticipated to rise to $5.71 billion from last year's $5.44 billion. The company's shares closed Wednesday's session at $59.47. (The stock gained nearly 1% in Q1; MA(50)- $58.73; MA(100)- $58.31; 52-wk H/L $64.17/$45.97)

Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ: News ) is scheduled to report results for the first quarter. (ALTR), Capital One Financial Corp. (COF), Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (CMG), E*TRADE Financial Corp. (ETFC), Freescale Semiconductor Holdings I, Ltd. (FSL), Lattice Semiconductor Corp.
