HP earning estimates per share report feb 23 2012

HP earning estimates per share report feb 23 2012 ; H-P flirted with the idea of shedding its PC business, the world's largest, before deciding in October to hold onto it, though the segment offers lower margins. The company saw a turbulent year in 2011, which included an $11.7 billion deal for British software provider Autonomy Corp. and the September firing of Chief Executive Meg Whitman's predecessor, Leo Apotheker. In November, H-P issued a first-quarter outlook that fell short of analyst estimates. Analysts expect the company's revenue to decline from the year-ago period.

On HP, Whitmore points to cost-cutting and financial discipline from new CEO Meg Whitman, along with favorable commodity prices, pointing to an earnings beat even if revenue misses slightly.

The average earnings per share estimate for HP (NYSE:HPQ) is 87 cents, down from $1.36 a year ago, on $30.77 billion in revenue, down from $32.3 billion a year ago.

HP stock was down a bit in early trading Friday. It closed at $29.89 Thursday, at the low end of its 52-week range of between $19.92 and $48.55. For the latest updates on the stock market, visit Stock Market Today
