what stocks to watch on 12-19-2011 : The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 2 points. It was up as many as 99 points in the morning after the Italian government won a confidence vote on austerity measures. That gain evaporated around midday after Fitch warned that it might downgrade the debt of Italy, Spain and four other countries that use the euro.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 2.42 points at 11,866.93. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3.91, or 0.3 per cent, to 1,219.66. The Nasdaq composite index rose 14.32, or 0.6 per cent, to 2,555.33 The Dow is down 2.6 per cent for the week; the S&P 2.8 per cent. The Nasdaq lost 3.5 per cent.
