Investor sentiment rose after the U.S. government reported on Thursday that the number of people applying for unemployment benefits dropped sharply last week. Positive manufacturing reports also helped.
The U.S. government released new inflation data Friday. According to the U.S. Labor Department, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was unchanged in November. The U.S. Labor Department also reports that the energy index fell for the 2nd straight month. The food index rose, but the gasoline index and household energy index declined.
