Of the 23 analysts covering the stock, 78% recommend a buy and 22% suggest a hold. Analysts' average 12-month price target for the stock is $45.94, about 58.3% higher than the current price, according to data compiled by Bloomberg
For the third quarter 2011, Metlife reported revenue of $20.4 billion, up 65.8% from $12.3 billion in the same quarter previous year. Premiums increased by 44.1% to $9.34 billion from $6.48 billion in the same quarter of 2010. Net profit for the quarter was reported at $3.55 billion, or $3.35 per share, compared to $286 million, or 33 cents per share, in the prior-year period. Metlife originated over $1.6 billion in agricultural mortgages in the first nine months of 2011.
Metlife paid fourth quarter 2011 dividend of 25 cents per share on the company's floating rate non-cumulative preferred stock, Series A; and 40 cents per share on the company's 6.50% non-cumulative preferred stock, Series B.
For the fourth quarter of 2011, the company expects operating earnings between $1.2 billion and $1.3 billion, or $1.16 to $1.26 per share, up 7% from $1.2 billion, or $1.19 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2010.
For full year 2011, Metlife expects operating earnings to grow 32% to the range of $5.2 billion to $5.3 billion, or $4.83 to $4.93 per share, compared with $3.9 billion, or $4.43 per share, in 2010. For 2011, MetLife expects its premiums, fee and other revenue to increase 32% and range between $46.3 billion and $46.8 billion, compared with $35.2 billion in 2010.
