Broadcom Corp. (BRCM US) gained 9.1 percent to $38.08. The supplier of communications chips for Apple Inc.'s mobile devices forecast third-quarter sales that topped analysts' predictions on booming demand for the iPhone and iPad.
Cummins Inc. (CMI US) rose 5.8 percent to $112.88. The maker of diesel engines predicted 2011 sales of $18 billion, compared with a previous estimate of $17 billion. Analysts projected sales of $17.3 billion.
Eastman Kodak Co. (EK US) declined 8.2 percent to $2.14. The photography company reported second-quarter sales of $1.49 billion, missing the average analyst estimate in a Bloomberg survey of $1.53 billion.
FMC Technologies Inc. (FTI US): The Houston-based provider of technology for oil and natural gas fields posted quarterly sales and profit that exceeded the average projection of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
Ford Motor Co. (F US) rose 1.8 percent to $13.41. The second-largest U.S. automaker said second-quarter profit beat estimates as buyers paid more for models such as the Fiesta subcompact.
Lexmark International Inc. (LXK US) advanced 8.5 percent to $31.30. The maker of laser and inkjet printers reported second- quarter earnings that topped analysts' estimates on strong demand from corporate customers.
Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT US) added 2.8 percent to $81.49. The world's largest defense company boosted its full-year profit estimate as second-quarter profit rose 3.9 percent, aided by higher sales and profits from orders for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
Netflix Inc. (NFLX US) lost 8.1 percent to $258.74. The mail-order and online film-rental service forecast third-quarter sales and profit that fell short of analysts' projections as a price increase cuts new-user signups.
OceanFreight Inc. (OCNFD US) soared 82 percent to $17.24. The Athens-based shipping company agreed to be bought by DryShips Inc. (DRYS US) for $19.85 a share, comprising $11.25 in cash and 0.52326 per common share of Ocean Rig UDW Inc. DryShips, also based in Athens, lost 1.3 percent to $3.78.
RadioShack Corp. (RSH US) surged 18 percent to $15.40. The consumer-electronics retailer said it will provide Verizon Wireless products in its stores starting Sept. 15 and it was "comfortable with the range of analysts' earnings estimates for the remainder of 2011."
Simon Property Group Inc. (SPG US): The largest U.S. shopping-mall owner raised its forecast for funds from operations after second-quarter results beat analyst estimates on higher rents and occupancies.
SunPower Corp. (SPWRA US) dropped 2.4 percent to $20.38. The second-largest U.S. solar panel maker said its second- quarter loss amounts to as much as 20 cents a share, compared with a previous estimate for a loss of 5 cents to 10 cents a share. Analysts projected earnings of 2 cents, Bloomberg data show.
Supervalu Inc. (SVU US) gained 7.7 percent to $9.18. The supermarket chain reported first-quarter earnings of 35 cents a share, beating the average analyst estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 33 cents.
Texas Instruments Inc. (TXN US): The largest maker of analog chips said third-quarter earnings may be as much as 65 cents a share. Analysts project 64 cents, on average, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Weatherford International Ltd. (WFT US) increased 7.2 percent to $21.93. The oilfield-services and equipment provider reported second-quarter earnings excluding some items of 17 cents a share, beating the average analyst estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 15 cents.
