Ringgit Opens market may 9 2011 Higher In Tandem With Local Bourse : KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- The ringgit opened firmer, with the underlying strength of the currency buoyed by the firmer stock market, dealers said.

At 9am, the ringgit was trading at 2.9890/9910 against the US dollar compared with 3.0055/0085 at 5pm on Friday.

One dealer said the ringgit was also riding on the weakeness of the greenback.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.4218/4244, from 2.4295/4339 on Friday, and was higher against the Japanese yen at 3.7034/7077 versus 3.7424/7480 previously.

It appreciated against the British pound to 4.8933/8981 from Friday's 4.9252/9307 and against the euro to 4.2991/3032, against 4.3665/3717 previously.
