U.S. Stocks Fluctuate as Oil Tops $111, and Gold Sets New Record High above $1470

U.S. Stocks Fluctuate as Oil Tops $111, and Gold Sets New Record High above $1470 : Markets shifted their attention to rising oil prices today amid the lack of economic fundamentals from the United States, where oil prices rose above $111 a barrel amid news that oil fields were attacked in Libya, which ignited fears over the supply of oil and led oil prices to the upside.

The U.S. Dollar index dropped today, as the U.S. dollar lost ground against higher yielding assets, while stock markets in the United States were fluctuating during the opening hours, as higher oil prices supported energy shares, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average was little changed around 12405, and the S&P 500 index also traded around its opening levels at 1334. Meanwhile, European stock indexes were higher before closing, where FTSE 100 was higher by nearly 0.75%, and the German DAX was up nearly 0.50%.

Moreover, gold prices continued to rise following the lead of oil prices, where gold prices rose today to set a new all-time record high at $1474.80 an ounce, while oil prices extended their gains to rise to the highest level since September 2008 at $111.95.
