Fish, Seafood Market prices Stable 2011 After Gulf Disaster

Fish, Seafood Market prices Stable 2011 After Gulf Disaster : When the oil spill struck the Gulf last year, seafood businesses around the country were hit hard. But someone who works in the fish industry locally says the market is back to normal.

"The immediate effects were that prices started to skyrocket, but somewhat strangely, there was so much suspicion of the Gulf seafood, and the demand dropped off so quickly, we actually saw a price reduction," said Dan Ryan is the manager of Empire Fish in Milwaukee.

"The markets have since stabilized. We've seen a return to historical pricing levels on pretty much all the products."

Ryan says there hasn't been any tainted seafood in the market place and he has full confidence in the quality of seafood coming out of the Gulf.

"I eat quite a bit, from shrimp to a wide variety of fin fish species, snappers, groupers, mackerel tuna, things like that. Obviously, the fact that I enjoy so much and eat so much of it speaks to my confidence level.
