Heating Oil Price Trend today for March 7, 2011 : +4¢ : Oil prices returned to a familiar upward trajectory on Friday, boosted once again by burgeoning civil war in Libya and political unrest elsewhere in the Arab world. As the fighting in Libya moved toward cities important to the country’s oil production and refining infrastructure, worries over a drawn out disruption of Libyan crude exports intensified

In the US, the Labor Department reported that the national unemployment rate fell below 9 percent for the first time in two years last month, which also pushed oil prices higher by signifying that the economic recovery is gaining momentum. On Monday morning, crude and heating oil prices posted significant increases during the first hour of trading at the NYMEX.

Today’s average retail heating oil price in the Northeast is 4 cents higher per gallon than Friday’s average price.
