Further rise for breads, flour price in Yerevan

Further rise for breads, flour price in Yerevan ; The past weekend registered a new rise in bread and flour price in Armenia. Although shops set different prices, a rise of 5 AMD to 10 AMD is certain.

Armenian News-NEWS.am asked Ivan Musoyan, Manager of the Mancho Group wheat-importer company, for explanations. He said that the company has set the wholesale price for a 50-kg sack of flour U.S. $34 against the previous U.S. $31. That is the retail price for flour is 248 AMD for 1 kg - a record price for the past two years.

Musoyan pointed out a complicated situation in the international wheat markets. Ukraine is currently the most convenient wheat exporter. "We are now facing problems in importing wheat. We can hardly import from Ukraine. The wheat price is U.S. $60 higher in Europe and in the United States," Musoyan said.

He also reported customs clearance cost has been raised from U.S. $250 up to U.S. $350. He believes that imported wheat should not be subject to customs clearance, as the wheat price has now reached U.S. $420 per ton.
