Recently the first lithium ETF was announced, the Global X lithium fund. The main lithium producers in the world are SQM, FMC Lithium and Rockwood. SQM has seen the most interest lately, as the number one producer of Chile’s lithium reserves. Also, Potash Corp, the Canadian fertilizer giant has a 36% share in SQM. Recent development of Billiton BHP’s hostile take over bid for Potash was rumoured to be partly based on acquiring access to Chile’s lithium. Companies involved in exploration and development of lithium deposits have seen more growth in the last two years. Possible investment options for exploration of lithium are Rodinia Minerals, Canada Lithium, Avalon Ventures, Western Lithium, First Lithium and American Lithium Minerals.
