New Toyota Yaris breaks cover

New Toyota Yaris breaks cover ; These are the first official pictures of the new Toyota Yaris, which is expected to arrive in the UK in late 2011. No official information has been released for UK cars yet, but Toyota’s home-market model – christened the Vitz – has been unveiled, and the car you’ll be able to buy in just under a year should be much the same. However, unlike the Japanese-built home-market car, the European version will be built in Europe.

This means there’s likely to be a choice of 1-litre or 1.33-litre petrol engines giving 68bhp or 93bhp respectively. Diesel and hybrid variants are likely to join the line-up later.

The most striking thing about the next-generation Yaris is its sharp-edged styling, which gives a more aggressive look. The car is also 100mm longer than the current model, ensuring a significantly more spacious cabin, with rear seat space benefiting especially thanks to the wheelbase having been stretched by 50mm.

Despite its increased dimensions, the new Yaris will still go head to head with the Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 207 and Vauxhall Corsa, along with other superminis such as the Honda Jazz and Nissan Note.

In the meantime, Toyota is offering up to £1,700 off the current Yaris, when ordered before 31 March 2011. All models are eligible, with TR buyers getting an automatic upgrade to a T Spirit edition as well as a £700 discount.

Every model comes with a five-year, 100,000 mile warranty while buyers who opt for Toyota finance also receive three years’ free servicing.
