Honda Insight Hybrid Price Drops 2011 ; In the market for a new hybrid car? The 2011 Honda Insight is going cheap-or at least, cheaper, as the manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) has dropped $1600, starting at $18,200 for a bare bones model.

According to Motortrend, this now makes the Insight the cheapest hybrid on the market, with the closest competitor, the Honda 2011 CR-Z, $1000 more. We reported earlier this year that while Consumer Reports wasn't overly thrilled with the model, its subscribers reported the Insight as one of the vehicles with top marks for reliability. Will the two of these factors converge to produce a surge in sales of the Insight for 2011? We imagine that's what Honda is hoping.
If you're interested in adding some bells and whistles to the bare-bones version of the Insight, you can opt for LX model, which adds cruise control, a four-speaker audio system, USB audio interface, armrest console, floor mats and a security system for and extra $1700.

The EX model adds alloy wheels, an audio system with six speakers, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals; the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System3 with voice recognition, a Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for hands-free operation, and various related steering wheel-mounted controls, for a total of $24,015. (As an interesting note, while the base price of the Insight has dropped, the price of both the LX and the EX models has increased, by $100 and $190, respectively.)
