It's no secret that Verizon's fourth-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) network and the devices to run on it are bound to be pitched as a new killer feature that should further differentiate Android from the iPhone in 2011.
Recent leaks support this theory. Take this mysterious device from Samsung that hit the web earlier today. A source asserted the phone will sport a forward-facing camera for video calling and run Android 2.2.1 Froyo and Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.
And if the Verizon branding is any clue, the device should hit the Verizon network pretty soon (we hope).
Another recent leak also uncloacked what looks like a prototype Incredible HD handset with 4G capability, apparently running on Verizon's network as well.
The nation's #1 carrier is on a roll regarding its 4G LTE roll out. Even though fourth-generation networks are not expected to fully take off in a commercial sense before the end of 2012, when major US carriers are to finish 4G deployments, Verizon and its subsidiary Sprint have been heavily promoting their 4G services over the past few weeks.
With a batch of 4G-capable handsets hitting the Verizon network pretty soon, the carrier is well positioned to capitalize on a broad push towards this new technology. Helping move customers to 4G, major phone vendors are also rumored to announce a slew of 4G-enabled handsets, including LTE devices from Motorola, Samsung, and HTC.
