Experience the coffee houses of Vienna

Vienna is justly famous for its cafe society. The Austrian capital's coffee culture dates back more than 300 years -- plenty of time to perfect the art and craft of brewing a perfect cup of coffee. Today, Vienna's 800-plus coffee houses are an integral part of the city's social scene. More than just a place to get a great cup of joe, a Viennese coffeehouse is a social hub -- a gathering spot for locals and tourists, says Eva Draxler of the Vienna Tourist Board.

"Coffee houses are the living rooms of Vienna," Draxler declares, adding that different cafes draw different kinds of patrons. Some have become the favourite haunts of artists and writers while others attract lawyers or business people.

Sensing that Canadians may be ready to steer away from the drive-through -- and also to promote Vienna as a travel destination -- the tourist board and Timothy's World Coffee have teamed up to bring a taste of Vienna to Canada.

Through Dec. 31, Timothy's patrons can sample Viennese-inspired treats -- including Cafe Vienna, Double Chocolate Schokolade and Viennese cookies -- and enter a contest for a chance to win one of two trips to Vienna (see attimothyscafes.com/vienna). For details on travel to Vienna, see vienna.info.
