Tips Protect Your Car New Years Day 2011

Tips Protect Your Car New Years Day 2011 : No matter what your plans are for New Year's Eve, whether it's a quiet night at home or one out partying downtown, make sure to secure your car and park it in a safe place. More cars are stolen on New Year's Day than any other day of the year, according to USA Today .

While there is no surefire way to be sure that you won't be a victim of car theft, taking a few easy steps will lessen the likelihood and protect your valuable automobile investment.

Under no circumstances should you ever leave the keys in your ignition when you are not there. Be sure to lock your doors each and every time you exit your vehicle, even if it's just a quick stop in a convenient store or for gas. Do not leave spare car keys in the car. You never know who's watching, and car thieves know where to look for hidden spares.

CarInsurance.com recommends parking in well-lit areas. If you don't have a garage to your home or apartment building that can be locked and secured, your next best thing is parking on a street that is well-lit at night, even if it means taking a longer walk to your front door.

As Life Spy reported, you should also consider placing steering and pedal locks in your car. If you cannot afford more expensive biometric car locking and tracking systems, strong, simply locks go a long way in deterring potential car thief. Car alarms should also be set. If you have a tracking device for your car, make sure it's on and working.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau warns, "While Americans are enjoying the holidays and most have time off from work, we need to remember that holidays are just another day at the shop for vehicle thieves."
